Through drawing, printing, performance, sculpture and painting, Alan Faulds artworks embrace and misdirect iconic imagery from art, music and fashion culture. Whether through detailed studio processes or more immediate actions he is artist intent on finding quizzical and sometimes comic means of re-modelling perceptions of fame, celebrity and high-end consumer objects.
Alan makes books of drawings about popular culture – celebrities, film or pop stars who intrigue him. His work has featured on T shirts and on the side of buildings in central Edinburgh.
Alan’s drawings of Kate Bush, Grace Jones and David Bowie were silk screened onto T shirts for a pop up shop at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art and were purchased by Kurt Geiger in return for a pair of shoes for every day of the week.
Most recently, his work featured in the Grey Wolf Studio Sale in Glasgow – a series of T shirts inspired by Bohemian Rhapsody, entitled ‘Mama’. His risograph prints ‘Prada Models’ and ‘Friday Party’ were printed by Scotland’s leading risoprinter – Glasgow based Risotto.
